Agile Project Management Hands-On Training by Northwest Cadence

This post-conference training (additional registration required) provides a full day of hands-on agile project management using Visual Studio 2010 by industry expert Steven Borg, Microsoft Visual Studio ALM MVP and principal consultant and cofounder of Northwest Cadence.

Course Abstract

Agile methods have changed how the software industry creates applications. New best practices have emerged to embrace a faster team-based approach to the challenges inherent in software delivery. Every aspect of application development - requirements, estimation, development, test, and deployment - benefits from new ideas and techniques.

This hands-on workshop will help you understand how to lead software projects and move your team onto agile methods for greater productivity and higher quality applications. It will define the domain and terminology, methods for managing the effort, and how roles have changed across the team in the agile world.

The student will experience a full set of real-world techniques for Agile Project Management. This includes the practices of backlog creation and iteration planning, getting customer input through the Product Owner, the daily management and team tasks involved, managing ongoing quality and performance improvement, and the mechanisms of team collaboration and project feedback. The student will learn how to present the new approach - and how to address common misunderstandings - for senior management, team members, and project stakeholders.

These techniques will enable students to take the reins in successful agile adoption and agile project management for their organization. To build upon these techniques, there will also be coverage of special topics like the Critical Chain, the Theory of Constraints, Lean Product Development, and Kanban. Combined with the fundamentals, these provide a deep toolbox for continuous performance improvement and profound economic results.
